Sumita Bhandari

Sumita Bhandari  is an attorney and Bay Area native, having graduated from Monte Vista High School (‘92) and the University of California, Davis (‘96).  She received her juris doctorate in 2000 from Boston University Law School. Sumita began her work in Washington D.C. as an Immigrant Rights Attorney at a leading Asian American Civil Rights organization, Asian Americans Advancing Justice (formerly the National Asian Pacific American Law Consortium). She returned to the Bay Area in 2007, and opened a solo estate planning practice before joining Gagen, McCoy, Markowitz and Fanucci in 2016, where she worked until 2021.

In May 2022, she rejoined the nonprofit sector as Executive Director for Discovery Counseling Center, a community based clinic as well as a training agency for mental health professionals that has been providing affordable mental health services to individuals and families for over 50 years.  Sumita is also a member of the steering committee for the San Ramon Valley Diversity Coalition. She graduated from Leadership San Ramon Valley with the Class of 2018. Sumita and her husband live in Danville with their three children.
